Abstract

In the third quarter of 2011, due to the lackluster performance of the economy in North America and Europe, the back-to-school demand was not as strong as usual. However, demand from the emerging markets and for the upcoming national holidays stimulated advance purchase for the upcoming fourth quarter. In the commercial market, since enterprise customers tended to use up their IT budgets before year-end, shipment volume of the Taiwanese desktop PC industry for the commercial market increased steadily. Due to the abovementioned factors, the industry is expected to have stood at approximately 15.1 million units in the third quarter of 2011, witnessing an 8.1% sequential growth and performing better than expected.
